At RVI, each individual makes his or her own investment decisions. Working with a group of accomplished people helps you improve the quality of your investments. RVI sees deals early and has a community to help us turn this dealflow into good investments. In total, RVI members invest about $1 million a year in early-stage companies.
Access to Dealflow
Most members say they see at least five times as many deals as they did before joining us. Deals vary from local seed-stage startups to some of the most advanced companies in syndication among Northeast angels.
Access to Experts
Few people have all the skills needed to vet a deal. Working with a group of great people lets you move faster, smarter, and more cost-effectively.
Avoiding Blind Spots
Playing on a team gives you more eyes to see more potential problems. Friends don't let friends invest alone.
- Helping Startups Succeed Anywhere: Our members derive great satisfaction from steering portfolio companies towards success through advice and introductions.
- Starting More Companies in Our Region: RVI members actively participate in our local entrepreneurship ecosystem: inspiring college students to explore entrepreneurship with the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation and mentoring up-and-running startups so they are ready for capital with Valley Venture Mentors.
- Funding More Companies in Our Region: When the companies we invest in are local, the majority of the economic benefit of our portfolio company's success comes to the community where we live. RVI and its partners are the largest source of equity financing for local startups.
WHo makes a great Member:
First, there are legal minimal requirements to joining any angel investment group: You must be compliant with SEC standards, and be an accredited investor. This means either having a net worth of over $1,000,000 (not including primary residence) or income of more than $200,000 per year (or $300,000 together with spouse). A complete definition is available from the SEC's website.
Second, you share Our Values.
Third, you contribute to the larger group in the following ways:
Checks of $5,000 or more
Individual members' investments range anywhere from $5,000 to $50,000 per deal. Each investor makes his or her own investment decisions, deciding which deals to fund.
1-3 hours per month
Members commit a few hours a month helping each other find, vet, and invest in our deals. To respect your time and help you make efficient decisions, we have an administrative staff to organize meetings and pre-vet deals.
